By leading sire Smart Strike Papa Clem is an exciting addition to the California Stallion roster. He defeated 3yr old champion Summer Bird in the Arkansas Derby and was a very troubled 4th in the Kentucky Derby. His female family speaks of three generations of top Graded stakes horses and the Hirsch family breeding program. His dam, Miss Houdini, was a Grade 1 winner in her 2nd start, the Del Mar Debutant. Papa Clem's 2nd dam, the brilliantly fast Magical Maiden, was also a Grade 1 stakes winner at two in the Hollywood Starlet.

Papa Clem's 2yr olds wrapped up 2013 with 7 winners from the 19 foals to start (46 total live foals), one stakes winner and one stakes placed horse. We look forward to seeing what these horses can do as the distances stretch out. We are very excited about the upcoming crop of 2yr olds (79) which should give us plenty of action throughout 2014 and beyond.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the breeders that supported "Papa" in his 2nd year. We got just over 100 mares in 2011 and have 47 lovely foals on the ground from his late starting first season at stud (click here to see foal photos).  We are looking forward to watching these foals grow and develop but so far we know one thing, "Papa" is stamping them. Very easy to pick them out in a field as they have his nice shoulder and hip, and his color.

FIRST FOAL!  We are pleased to announce the first foal by Papa Clem! Candi Capri, a full sister to stakes winner Nifty Slew who is the dam of two stakes winners, including Hostility ($401,829), and a stakes placed horse, foaled a colt on January 25, 2011. His excited owner describes him as “quite a looker, big, tall, strong, well-boned and nicely muscled dark brown foal, with a white blaze and clearly his daddy’s head.”  click here to see more foals.

August, 2010
It's a wrap! Papa Clem ends his first season with 57 mares and a 98% conception rate. Given that we received him two weeks before the beginning of the breeding season we are fairly pleased.
